I have had this camera for a couple years now, and am still learning how to work it..just wondered if anyone knew some tips...for istance..
1} can I eliminate/shorten the shutter delay??
2} how is the best way to change the item focused on (I usually just take like 10 shots and cross my fingers...)
3} are the standard settings (with little icons) really useful?or should I set them myself?

1.) You can't eliminate it. The closest you can get to shortening it is to pre-focus on what you want to shoot before you hit the trigger.
2.) With the EVF and LCD screens it's pretty hard to know what you're focused on for sure, but I'm not entirely sure what you're asking here...
3.) The standard settings aren't going to allow you much freedom. Try using the Av or Tv modes if not full manual. I personally use Av so that I can control my DOF and let the camera change the shutterspeed to match.

The Stitch-Assist mode is handy if you want to make any panoramas. I fed some into Autostitch (free software) and it did a fine job blending them together.

hey thanks yall!! Sam..as for #2..I often get mislead cause it has a box in the viewfinder, but thats not always what it focuses on...I think I will play more with the AV to work on DOF (which is mostly what I am talking about, hehe)...

There won't be a whole lot of DOF to play with on a point and shoot, so if you want to minimize it make sure to shoot wide open. In order to resolve number 2, there should be a setting in the menus somewhere to set the AF to spot or center. That way it will focus on whatever is in the middle.
