Okay, call me an idiot, but I thought it was common enough to be understood. Judging by several comments, though, I was wrong. I will chalk this one up to experience. Maybe I should have titled it "Use Eggs to trade for things when you don't have money, therefore making the eggs into money." Hahahhaa. Just kidding.
So, here's what I was thinking. In rural areas (some today, some in year's past), if a family did not have a means to provide money, they would often times try to have one or two good chickens to lay eggs. Then, they could trade the eggs for what they wanted, OR sell the eggs to get the money for what they needed/wanted.

A title should not be needed to explain a picture, the picture should tell the whole story.
I only use the title to check whether I am missing something, a hidden meaning, a misinterpretation due to local customs, a culture difference, for example.
(p.s. I agree , does not deserve a 1, very few do)
For me, titles can enhance meaning and/or mystery in photos, if they are well written. This photo is excellent, and the title helped make it relevent to the challenge. I'm really surprised it garnered any low scores.
ones, eh? I got it (thank GOd!). I'm always surprised to see most of the ones folks give out, especially a shot like this. I hope those who gave you ones at least gave up a comment as to why.

This was one challenge where I think titles were really important. Looked at out of the context of this challenge, I wonder how many of these photos would really make one think "money".
I just read the comments on the photo. Some couldn't see a connection with the money. I never got to use eggs as money but my parents did. I've heard stories when they would take eggs from the house and trade them in for sweets. The eggs even had different values, based on size.
I gave it an 8, actually. I really liked the lighting and the basket. I understood the concept. Gotta love the people who score images 1s with no explanation as to why... (unless it's an obvious 1, which this certainly isn't)
As one of the eight perhaps I need to explain as well. Firstly, perhaps the rating I gave was due to bad timing - for me most of the entries for this challenge relied on the title to carry really doubtful images - and maybe yours was just the next in a string of, to me, lousy pictures and cheesy titles. Secondly, the challenge was money. Money replaced bartering both through standardisation of value and ease of use (and I am sure many other reasons). So why eggs? Why not something else? There just wasn't enough of a link for me in your image to convey money - and in fact bartering is the abscence of money.
But for my first point I may have gone as high as a 3 on the quality of your image.
If you consider that money can be any medium of exchange or payment then eggs are a perfectly acceptable form of money. Money isn't exclusive to paper and coin currency, and the whole point of the challenge was NOT to show those forms.
I think you obviously put thought into the topic and came up with a good subject. I'd say there are actually still people using eggs as money somewhere in the world. The rest of us backwoods southerners should get it anyway ;P
That's what bothers me about people marking down shots based on fitting the topic. You might really TRY to fit the topic, and think that you do, but that doesn't mean you won't get 1s for not being on topic.
As for the shot, the subject might be getting a little cliche, but you did an excellent job with the technical aspects. Great light and color, nice tones, and good focus. I won't argue that there are lousy pictures and cheesy titles on dpc, but this definitely isn't one of them.
