Ok, robbed is a strong word. But there were some incredible pics that didn't meet the DCP high-vote standards:
How does this get 451st place? This is a spectacular picture, IMHO. The small size, the centered composition, the beautiful vignette - all a very different treatment of the subject. "Fast manly technology" pics don't really speak to me, but this one makes it look small, fragile, and beautiful.
Came in at # 326. I could see this one being less than popular, as it's a very non-standard treatment of a portrait. But I think it deserves a mention as being very effective in it's non-standardness. There's a cool goth-meets-suburbia vibe to it. Really awesome.
#292. I love minimalism, the voters don't. This one has great composition, wonderful leading lines, and a sense of mystery. I love it.
#221. Again with the minimalism not working for the voters; but it did get you listed as one of my favorite photographers.
Great shot, finished at #197. The aggresive spikey flower head contrasted with the curly tendril at the bottom; the colors of the slight duotone, all great. The contrast and the color give the flower head an almost metallic, industrial look.
#179. I don't even know what to say. This is a great picture. I feel like that little flower is trying to get somewhere...
#146. Who can say no to that face? Or that pink wall?
I was going to keep this to pictures that didn't break the top 100, but here're two that did, that I think deserve another look:
There you have it. It was an incredibly deep field; my picture finshed appropriately at #375, but I thought I'd point out the ones that really spoke to me before they got buried. Good work everyone - Some day I'll start sucking less!
(I just checked the preview and saw all these pics on one page - I certainly have an aesthetic, don't I?)
Thanks for starting the thread - these are always fun to look at, but giving the forum thread a title as you did will result in rather direct responses.
A softer title such as "underrated free study pics" might gain more favorable response.

Eh, title is fine and I like your aesthetic. Thanks for pointing out some of these, as I didn't get a chance to vote the whole challenge this time and most weren't in the third I did get to.
That's the way the cookie crumbles. I thought mine deserved a little better than a 6.0xxx but that's what it got. Some of those pics I can agree with and some I can't.
Awww, thanks for the love on my pic (the gorilla) bud. It placed and scored right about where I thought it would but this is definitely a pleasant pat on the back.
Thanks for starting this thread. I used to do more "Underrated" type threads but have fallen off on them lately.

I really just wanted to show what I thought were some incredible pics that would otherwise fade into obscurity. Don't expect or want everyone to agree with my choices. I'll be more careful in the future.
I agree with you - these Free Study challenges just seem to be getting so large now that nice, quiet images really can get lost in the weeds. I am just happy that a few really excellent minimal photos ended up scoring so well.
I think I will refrain from entering these in the future, and save everyone the agony... including myself.
