When I voted on the first three photos in the Macro challenge, I gave them "ones" because I thought it was being suggested that the picture be disqualified. I later found out that it was a link to be used only if "I" thought the picture should be disqualified.
Question: Can I change my votes ? If not, I appologize to the photographers of those photos for my low votes.

Your vote should highly] reflect your opinion of the photographer's interpretation (and understanding) of the topic. So if you think a picture of a mountain landscape in a macro challenge is a great picture but for the wrong challenge, it should still receive a low vote for its not-meeting the challenge criteria.
Is the field shrinking in the macro contest? I know of at least 2 that were disqualified since last night, but are there some more gone? Does a recommendation for disqualification automatically get rid of the picture? I was just curious.
I noticed this too. I wonder if all the missing photos are ones that have been disqualified, or is it possible to unsubmit a photo after voting begins?
A recommendation for disqualification does not automatically remove an image. When we get a more than a few recommendations, we then typically disqualify.
Do you think disqualifications should be publicly displayed? Right now, they are completely removed from the site (though we still house the data).
I think it's a great idea to display the disqualified photos. That way people can talk about it, and you guys can get a better feel of what the people who didn't recommend it for disqualification think. If you do display the DQd photos, however, I would suggest you add a Forums->Disqualifications.
I personally think disqualified photos should NOT be displayed, as this exposes them to embarrassment and ridicule. I know someone whose photo was disqualified - he merely misunderstood the rules and made a mistake. Why rub his nose in it? :^)
i'm inclined to agree with Not showing disqualified photos for the same reason zymara gave. If the photographer doesn't understand why it was dq'd and wants to, they can ask at Forum and thereby reap the rewards of constructive criticism :o)
Just because a photo is disqualified does not mean it's a bad photo, it only means that it did not meet the requirements of the rules. I don't think it would be rubbing someone's nose in it to allow their photo to be seen by everyone, instead of removing it permanently from view and pretending it never existed. Besides, plenty of embarrasing photos that do meet the rules get to stick around! ;)
