And owned an 300D, and needed a, say, 75/100 to 300, what would you recommend? Read my bio, not a newbie to photography. Just that the new len's out now are way below standards these days. I dont have time or money to keep buying len's to find out which one is good.

This lens is rated below average at photozone. I personally would save my pennies and purchase a higher quality more expensive lens or rent one if I really needed to use one soon. Renting might not be such a bad idea in general. You can try a number of different lenses and find the right one for you. Places like Calumet allow you to rent and then if you decide to buy a lens, in a specified period of time, give you a discount on the purchase. Something to at least keep in mind.
Hey Techno, how is this lens rated below average? It's 4th total overall in the Canon lenses and the three better ones cost many times more. I understand about hq glass and fast lenses but dont have that much at this time to spend. I'll eventually get a Canon 70-200 2.8 but thats 2500.00 down the road for now. hahahaha
I'd save up another $250 or so and get the Canon 70-200/f4L. It is an incredible lens for the money. A lens that you will be able to continue to use and be very happy with for many years to come. It is worth the money just for the constant f/4 aperture over the entire zoom range.

Another vote for this great lens. Also, it works well with the canon 1.4x teleconverter too..
