great shots Gordon. Was it pretty cold there? Im going on December 12th for a week. But im prepped for temps to be in the low 30's to mid 50's (or colder). THis will be my first winter trip there.

That shot in Apline was it by the Best Western?

We stayed one night in the beautiful Best Western, Alpine, Tx. and yup, that shot is from the parking lot.

It was pretty cold over night (24F) and beautiful during the day (70s)

Very dry/ no humidity, and stunningly beautiful.

I looked at your shots shortly before I headed out - great stuff.
The long, empty roads are very familiar now! Never did get to the McDonald Observatory - will hopefully go back next time.

ok, I have stayed at that Best western a few times. Its pretty nice in Alpine.

I love HWY 118 from alpine to Big Bend, also the road from Study Butte to Lajatis is like a roller coaster for a few miles, its lots of fun.

Thanks for the comments on my pics.... hopefully I can get some shots like what you displayed here, more of a photograph than a snapshot which I do a lot of.
