We set up the Christmas Tree today, and I thought it would be neat to do a time lapse of it, especially since I had never tried it before.
Does anyone do these regularly? Any tips?
I used the intervalometer set at 2min, converted to GIF and resized to 320x240 in PS, then used a free program called UnFREEz 2.1 to assemble the animated GIF.
What the heck is an intervalometer and is it only on your camera? Do other cameras have it? If it's what I think it is, I wished it was on my camera for things like sunsets, cityscapes, etc....
I took 72 pictures, at 2 minute intervals. I switched the camera off for about an hour while we ate dinner because no one would be in the room.
The intervalometer does what the name implies, it takes pictures at regular intervals. I had never used it until this. I don't know if other cameras have this feature or not, I'm pretty sure my dad's S50 does.

Wow, that's a lot of pictures. It came together really nice.
My film camera (just a p&s) has the interval feature too, but I've never played around with it. I've thought about testing it on a closed flower that slowly opens (cliche, I know). Some day!
Someone asked if this was legal. I am thinking that it would not be for a challenge because it is not one image, it is not a jpeg, and the file size quickly gets out of hand. The one that is currently in my portfolio is 3.5 MB for 72 GIFs at 320x240 and 256 colors.
It would make an interesting challenge though......
