I've only ever used Photoshop 7. I often struggle with photos where the exposure range is too much for the camera, and so have played with HDR. But I'm noticing the the "Shadow-Highlight" tool is often mentioned, as a feature in CS2.

What are the improvements in CS2 over Photoshop 7 ?

Is it a worthwhile upgrade ?

I'm beginning to feel a little out of date.

It might be worth waiting for CS3 to be released, I suspect (though I have no clue) that it would cost you the same to go from 7->CS3 as it would to go from 7-CS2, but you'd then need to pay more to then go CS2->CS3

CS3 must be pretty close to being out the door.

Slippy,

I was one of the holdouts until last December, and now I've made the switch I'm delighted. Major improvements include:

1. Smart sharpen
2. Bicubic smoother and sharper options
3. Shadow/Highlight adjustment
4. Better 16-bit processing functionality
5. Incredibly useful "spot healing brush" tool, perfect for sensor dust and minor blemishes

Move up to CS3 and get, among other things, a fantastic B/W conversion option that covers a lot of bases in a single panel.
