I am looking for a transfer software that will allow me to transfer my pictures (always in RAW) from my memory card (inserted in SanDisk card reader) to a specific folder pertaining to the date the picture was taken.
Basically if I had 15 photos from March 2, 29 from March 7, 123 from March 13, and 7 from March 14, I would like it to put the pictures from each date in their own folders. I also want to be able to specify the way the folder names work, because I use a "2007_03_13 - Zoo Trip" naming format for my pictures, Obviously I can add the "Zoo Trip" part after.
I can go 2 weeks before dumping photo's onto my computer, and sometimes end up having 10 different days of pictures on one card. Very long and annoying if I have to create all the folders manually. Is there anything out there or am I dreaming?
I've been trying to write an application to do image managment. What you describe is one of the functions I've built into it. It will take images from any loction and move/copy them to a destination folder. You have an option to put the files into dated subfolders which would create the folders in a YYYY-MM-DD format and put the files in based on the creation date of the file. This is a Visual Basic .Net 2005 application so will only run on Windows. I could pull out that part of my app and create an executable if you would like.
I've been trying to find out how to access the IPTC data in the raw images to do a little "tagging" of the files as they are moved/copied but unfortunately I've been unable to figure out how to do that as yet. The whole thing has kind of been shoved to the back burner for a while. I hopt to get back to it soon.
You have an option to put the files into dated subfolders which would create the folders in a YYYY-MM-DD format and put the files in based on the creation date of the file.
The only thing is that I use underscores instead of dashes, _ instead of -.

Be careful of this for DPC entries, as it would modify the original file in the transfer.
Nikon transfer will do this exactly as you're describing. That's what I use, also with a SanDisk card reader. I just deleted the SanDisk sniffer from the start menu, and Nikon Transfer will move the files into their own folders, based on the date.
EDIT: Then again, this may not work since you're trying to automate the date stuff. Nikon transfer will just name a new folder with whatever date it currently is, but it's not going to separate everything for you.

I've had a couple of programs that will just move the files into one big folder, but this does not help me at all. It is easier for me to do this manually then to have it throw 2 weeks of pics into one folder.
Not that it's of any help for you, but with Canons transfer software you can put the images (fully automatic and without any adjustment!) in folders like '2007/03/2007_03-15' (it takes the shooting date to determine the folder).

Yeah, I had this with my Canon P&S. Is there no answer for card reader users?
