I definitely recommend Outdoor Photographer. It has a few reviews of the latest equipment but the bulk of the magazine contains tips and how-to's. Strongly Recommened!
I just picked up a copy of Layers Magazine and I just love it! I also got Shutterbug but didn't like it as well as Layers.
I agree - Layers is great. I subscribe to Layers and Photoshop Users Magazine. As a member of NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals), the later comes with the membership. These two magazines have great tips for digital photographers, but so much more as it relates to post processing.
So far I was thinking Outdoor Photography...Really liked it when I looked at the website. I also thought about American Photo and Popular Photography. You can subscribe to them both for a total of $20 a year.
I'll have to take a look at at Layers and Photoshop users magazines.
American Photo - Nice photos and articles, more "artsy" than most magazines, great articles on different photographers. A classic style.
Popular Photography Same publisher as American Photo, but with more stuff about hardware, etc, less "artsy."
Outdoor Photographer All around great magazine. Lot's of stuff on equipment, technique, Photoshop etc. As title infers, mostly about landscape and outdoor stuff.
I used to get Shutterbug, Digital Photo Pro, and PC Photo, but TONS of ads in there making it difficult to read sometimes. A short article that would only take up 2 pages gets stretched to 6 or 7 pages with all the ads jammed in between the words.
