I'm off to Huatulco in a little while and I was wondering if any of you have been there. Any off the beaten path advice? I'll post some shots as I go...
Hey Steve, have a great trip. I'm off to San Miguel de Allende first of March. Hope to have a great time with lots of photgraphy, etc. It's not a beach destination so hopefully will find some interesting stuff. Where is Huatulco btw?
Great place! I recommend The Hotel Flamboyant. Lots of crabs on the rocks at dusk (On the shore). Nice zocolo and fresh cheap seafood. Cheap boat tours are available too. I'm jealous. My wife lived in Oaxaca which is about 7 hours north from there. Have fun.
Hualtulco is in the State of oaxaca. Political problems are subsiding though They were mostly in the capital. Teacher Strike is over. Ruiz should really step down but is still Governor....PRI dinosaurs don't fit well in the southern states. Nice photos though. The place has special memories for me. Its a shame to see what has happened to a place that I believe is the heart of Mexico where some its best artists live and produce. Thanks Pawdrix
Great trip. Third World all the way. The town I was in, Zipolite had no bank...no cash machine, a lotta thatched roof shacks etc. The people were the coolest...laid back as all hell. Food was nice the Mezcal was superb. I found a soulmate for life.
I just started transfering images from my laptop last night. Doesn't look like people are interested based on the views, so far but I'll put'em up anyway.
I like them! Keep posting! I was in Agua Azul and it was the same...no banks and only one store. Change and cash were a valuable commodity. We slept in hammocks with stars the size of the moon and tropical river views in the day light. One really didn't have to leave their hammock if they didn't want to. Unfortunately my pictures from all this are on film. Some day I might scan them in. I visited many ancient ruin sites on the beaches and in the rain forests and have some great shots of ancient temples. The trip changed my life. I'm eager to return with the digital.....
I think the trip changed my life as well. Now I'm only half the Butthead I once was. Seriously, it did change my perpective. It's a slap in the face when you realize how much we have here and how much we take for granted, even to the point of unabashed gluttony. Seeing it on TV is one thing but when it affects you even for a little while, it's whole different story. The US so far beyond. I mean, even our poor and homeless are fat. Whats that about???

I got something a bit different from my trips across Mexico. I felt more of a responsibility for the gifts and advantages I have. I feel more responsibility as an inhabitant on the planet and a duty to live up to my potential. What I saw of poverty widened my perspective and pointed out that each decision needed to take more than my personal agenda into consideration. (I met my wife while I was down there) I'm going to look for those photos soon and will post any here. I've got quite a few from everywhere I went. If you're really from NYC we probably could see the collection over a beer or expresso next time I'm down there. (not to mention I'm planning a trip to Oaxaca in July.)Did you find a 7 peso beer while you were there?
