the pay is dirt, but if you work at it hard enough, you can make a few bucks. the main payoff is in getting exposure and name recognition. after a while, you start getting better assignments that pay more, as well as getting hired for event work that can pay really well. it's not easy, but it's a great place to start. i think that mastering the art of photojournalism can prepare you to make more/better money shooting weddings than just tagging along behind someone in the wedding business, simply because you'll develop a fresher eye for story-telling photography. the key to the pj stuff, though, is to take every assignment possible and treat each one like it was for sports illustrated or national geographic, even if it's just for a local weekly rag. |
