I just want to Vent. Maybe I should just get over the fact that my picture did so badly. But I love it and everyone I have shown it to out side of DP Loves it to and I don’t understand why It had to get 3.9664 Ok yes it did have a few problems, like the dust. But really. I was going for washed out, that’s my favorite part about the picture. Scream! Scream! Vent! Vent!

If anyone else wants to Vent about their challenge results feel free to do so. I know its liberating.
As long as you like it, the score shouldn't matter. But also be willing to accept that some will like it, some won't, no matter how much you, personally, love it. :)
I don't think the issue should be the score. a genral rule of thumb around here for all of us is if you are emotionaly attached to an image don't submit it.
we all have one that we love that didn't scroe so well, and we don't understand why. I think overall the "washed out" look doen't look intentional enough for voters to vote high on it. not saying you didn't do it intentional it just doesn't look like you did.
keep shooting though, one bad challenge doesn't mean the end of your dpc world
People will score down for the "blown highlights". People will score down because it's a cat in a free study and people tend to expect something "more" for those. What scores well around here isn't always what we like most as individuals. So ask yourself - are you in it for the score, or would you rather shoot what you like and how you like?

No - I think this looks like in the traditional sense of using film that it is fogged. It just looks muddy gray and does not make the picture better in my opinion.

I think I would have upped the contrast a bit, cloned out the dust cropped a bit tighter and went for a little more of an "artsy" look. To me the problem this shot faces is the shadows and the extremes caused by the light. That is tough to overcome.
