Okay, I did these shots for a friend of a friend and she likes them but I would like to know what I could have done to make them look any better... these are the few that came out alright... but, gosh darn it, I want PERFECTION *it is a problem with me* LOL
Shoot later in the day. Some of them look like took them with the sun high in the sky. If you have to shoot with the sun up high, look for shade. Another option is to use a reflector to fill in the shadows.
I will try to tone them down a bit... the poses were her idea (she is uncomfortable in her skin) so I didn't push but I may have to get her indoors... thanks Palmetto...
I did some shadow shots but they weren't nearly as clear... the wind was pretty high too... is there a stand or something that could hold a reflector? Thanks Spazmo...

Maybe you could just take her back out (during the golden hours) and just "chat" with her. Talk, make jokes, hang out... The entire time, position yourself so that you get good angles. Be constantly aware of your composition, lighting and background but don't look like you're doing it. Make it more about hanging out and less like a "photoshoot" and she'll relax and you'll get more natural poses.

there is not a stand that I have ever found to be helpful. taking a friend or if you are shooting a senior it's a great job for mom to do. it keeps them from fussing about hair and stuff like that.
overall I think you did a great first job, and the ones from later on were better.
