I would like to see a Democrat elected to the White House in 2008 (or even a truly moderate republican) and I personally don't mind Hillary, but I don't know if she is the best candidate the dems can put forward.
In a poll I saw 45% of the people responding said they would not vote for her no matter what. That seems like a slim margin to work with to win.
At the moment I'm on the Obama bandwagon. The man seems like a true unifier versus the current establishment which was billed as such.
I'd also be interested in seeing what Giuliani's platform will be like. He seems moderate enough for me. The bottom line is there is no candidate that represents the hodge podge of positions I hold. Progressive taxation, fiscal responsibility, strong environmental laws, strong gun control, moderately against abortion rights, moderately for "family values" (or whatever that means).
Some of the candidates I generally like are moderate republicans who get creamed when they hit the primaries in South Carolina and then fade from the race...

Of course the devil is in the details, but your generic summary of your positions aligns with a generic summary of most libertarian positions on those issues.

I find it disengenious of the liberals to mask their feelings on gun control, especially after the stomping they took in '94.
This is what I find confusing on the part of both liberals and conservatives.
Liberals are typically against gun ownership due to the "death" issue. Yet they typically support abortion. They are typically against capital punishment (the death penalty), yet they are typically for abortion.
Conservatives are typically for gun ownership (self defense) and capital punishment (for heineous crimes), yet against abortion.
I can almost see the conservatives view that 2 of the instances involve criminals (self defense and capital punishment) while the last involves "innocent" life. The liberals view, just confounds me. Let the criminals live, but kill the babies.

i think the biggest hurdle to hillary right now is the fact that the right wingers and swift boaters and fox newsers and rush limbaughs already have 15 years of her words and actions to use against her.

She'll say many more things between now and '08 that will infuriate many in the red states. Even if people got past the fact that she's a woman she just isn't likable not even in the slightest. The only way I see her winning is if she runs against Rice.

Really? I would think libertarians were pretty well against gun control, against environmental restriction, against abortion restriction and against taxation.

My sister just retired last year from 30 years in administration at Stanford University. For a number of years she worked closely with Condoleeza Rice. The stories she tells are not flattering...
I love all the feedback that I received for my question. But again, it was refreshing to hear a speech where someone didn't studder. But if not Hillary-I wonder who would be best qualified to clean up the mess that G.W. has left.
