This Saturday, Nov 8th, at 8:06 the moon will be in full eclipse by the Earth. The moon, which should be easily visible, weather permitting, in the Northern hemisphere should appear red. You might want to make plans to capture this event.
We actually had a red moon on Halloween! We went out to the country to a haunted corn maze, and at about 11pm I noticed that the moon was very low in the sky and dark orange. It was about half full and turned on its side with wispy clouds all around. The corn field and moon were so gorgeous. I was SO wishing I had my camera.
By the time I got home it was gone. Is the moon setting around midnight in Tennessee now or what?
If you want to take a breathtaking shot of the moon you will need a very good telephoto lens, 400 mm (times 1.6 for canon eos 10) is the absalut minimum. And of course use a tripod and mirror lockup etc.etc.
Hope the weather wont be to cloudy, otherwise it will be great from Iceland.
I have an eyepiece adapter and a camera ring to mount my Sony DSC-F717
on my telescope.I bought all this in preparation for this eclipse. I am afraid that it will be cloudy here and I will not be able to use it

you should use an f4 to f8 and keep the shutter speed around 1/100 to 1/180, but yo will have to make adjustments to the shutter speed as the moon darkens. longer exposures are going to show movement of the moon if you dont have some sort of tracking platform, like a telescope that has auto tracking, or a gadget called a barn door tracker Barn Door Tracker
i will probablly take about 200 to 300 pics tonight, if the clouds go away

We have been observing it since 6:30 PM. It is now basically shadowed but looking a bit reddish. It is great, 'cuz I haven't been able to see most of these events due to weather.
I tried taking some shots, but my lens is not strong enough. Oh well.
Funny story: A lady came out of her house all excited, and shouted to another inside her home "Look! It's right there! We don't have to go anywhere!"
DOH! You don't have to travel to a special place to see the moon! LOL
Okay... going out to see more...even though it is only 31 deg F right now!
