Hi! I want to add a border to a basic editing entry and I just want to make sure hte way I do it is legal. I first convert my background layer to a layer 0 then I create a new blank layer wich I colorize using an adjustment layer and vring it under my layer 0 (the image). I finally apply a white 1px wide border to my layer 0 using layer function (I don't know if it's the right term in english, my photoshop is in french) and flatten the image. This gives me a whatever color outside border and a white color inside border. Would this be legal and if not is there a way to achieve the same effect legally. Thanks
Not sure about that tecnique, but this one is basic legal.... Choose the color you want for the first (inside) border, hit ctrl+a (select all), then edit, stroke, 1 pix - the color you chose. Then select the 2nd border (outside color) and do Edit, canvas size, 110% - color you choose).
A similar method is to use edit/stroke/1 pix/ then edit/stroke/4 pix and use 2 different colors (like white, and black)
If you want a total of 10 pixels of border all around (5 pixels each side):
1. resize image to 630 x whatever
2. select your two border colors as foreground and background colors in the color picker
3. go to image/canvas size and be sure you have selected "relative" and the center box in the diagram
4. choose foreground for color and 2 pixels as size, OK
5. back to image/canvas size, choose BG for color, 8 pixels as size, OK
You now have a 1-pixel keyline surrounded by a 4-pixel contain.
Thanks Bear_Music, I needed to know how to do a simple border and came across this thread at exactly the right time. I got the best shot I have got so far over the weekend and have submitted it for free study 1. As I made it a certain tone I felt that a border was called for but didn't know how to do it until now.
