Man I was just looking at PETA's site then came back here and saw this post.............my youngest daughter is wanting to do something to help save dogs and cats and I was looking for ideas to help her but now I think I may stay away from PETA
Not disputing any of the allegations - don't know enough to form an opinion either way but I am curious to know who the sponsors of the PetaKillsAnimals.com website are. Strikes me ther are plenty of multi-nationals who have a vested interest in bringing down PETA....

Try ASPCA or perhaps some of your local vet clinics have animal rescue programs.
I've never had much respect for PETA or their tactics nor their associations with the terrorist organization ALF (Animal Liberation Front).
I drove by PETA headquarters every day on my way to work during my residency. They'd often be out there clubbing dogs and cats and tossing them in the dumpster...
OK, that last part is made up...it was baby seals.

There are lots and lots of private rescue groups to volunteer for. Animal and breed specific as well as general. Horse rescues are alwyas looking for people willing to groom, spend time with the horses, if not lame or old even ride them and clean the animals quarters and are many dog & cat facilities. As Fotoman_forever stated there are also vets (where she can get lots of learning done on the side), the ASPCA, PACA, Local Humane Societies. Judge every one individually. There are tons of good people out there and there are not as neat people too in all the organized groups and small local rescues. Also she can become (with your appoval) a foster home for pets waiting to be adopted or in need of special care until they are ready for adoption.

I agree - I find militant and semi-miltant animal rights people rather scary.
There is a particularly vigorous animal rights movement in the UK. They demonstrate an astonishing disregard for human rights and lives (to the extent recently of grave robbing and body snatching the deceased relatives of their enemies).
Ironically, we have some of the highest regulatory standards for animal rights, and their actions are driving necessary research into other jurisdictions with fewer protections.
Frankly, if the allegations are true, I really don't care about who is exposing or publicizing it or their motives. And it appears there is a trial and lots of evidence.
Radicalism of any sort is never a good thing and most radicals are simply that - radicals - whatever they claim their cause is, it usually turns out that their cause is simply radicalism. IMO.

And of course, anything that has Pamela Anderson as its spokesperson representing her as having either a clue or a brain is suspect IMO.
crazy to think the whole PETA movement was founded on someones genuine feelings about how animals are treated by humans(what a perfect idea in a perfectly veggie oriented utopia),go look in PETAS state of the art freezers,you wouldnt like whats inside,and its not broccoli an califlower...such a tender organization,lol,be your own lover of animals,do what you can,lots of animals do need help,but i wouldnt recommend PETA honestly,especially to a child...my2pnes
