I like the general idea Dan, but I'm not sure if it looks "set up" enough give that "still life" feel to it. I'm not saying the dolls in the back weren't intentionally placed for your shot, but it isn't obvious that they were. To me, a "still life" embodies the idea that everything in the shot was carefully and thoughfully placed by the photographer. Also I'm not sure if it is a result of the compression artifacts or not, but the faces on the dolls in the shallow DOF area look a little bit strange to me.

As for the two shots shown, I have to agree that you wonder if they were "set up" for the shoot alone. But I don't think still life has to be a posed shot per say, even though I had set the items in my shot where they were, I didn't do it with the intention of shooting it for the challenge. I had put the things down, walked away to do something and when I turned around and saw it and thought, "DANG! That would be perfect for this challenge!" which goes to show you that you just never know when a good shot might happen along.
