Ok, so I just got home from shooting some product shots, and I shot all of the pictures in RAW+jpeg. I was with a friend at her school using the studio, and when we were done, we went into the computer lab and checked to see if we got all the shots we wanted. All was well, there were two copies of each picture, a jpeg and a 10 mb RAW file. But now at home, I loaded them all on my computer, and each picture is there twice, but as a jpeg file! I opened my CF card up via my computer, and it still shows them as jpegs. But I know they aren't, because I only have 150 pictures on my 2GB card, and if I turn on my camera, it says "CF Full."
What's happening?! Any ideas? I would really appreciate any help.
yea, I'm just using windows picture and fax viewer....I have my camera directly connected to my computer with a usb cord too.
Should I finally use the software that came with the camera ?
MS RAW Image Viewer shows camera settings while browsing pics too. Handy to use some times, slightly slower to load than the regular pic and fax viewer.
Look for "RAW Image and Thumbnailer and Viewer", about third entry down.
To get the stuff off the card though, I'd suggest either Canon Utility (on the CD that came with the camera, you may need to install an earlier version and go to the Canon website to get an update) or a card reader. The card reader is the "cleanest" method.
to download the RAW files i use the canon software - mainly i like how it will download by date taken. you might want to look at some RAW conversion apps like raw shooter essentials or the like though. not sure what RAW conversion software the 350d comes with.
Well, I downloaded the powertoy, but that didn't help. The Canon utilities that came with my camera are downloading as I type. And even if those work, I will still go buy a card reader.
The Canon software should be able to see and transfer the RAW files. If you still have trouble, get a USB 2.0 *High Speed* reader (make sure it says High Speed), or if you have FireWire ports on your computer, get a FireWire reader.
Thanks, I'll be sure to do that. Just restarted my computer and started uploading, and they are definitely taking WAY longer to upload, plus the files are named .CR2 now, so all is well I think.

I should have been clearer that this RAW viewing utility is only going to help AFTER you figure out a way to copy from your chip to your hard drive. I should have been clearer. (Using Windows file explorer and a USB card reader is the solution IMHO) I use the viewer for previewing any RAW images, not copying.
