Here are two pics using my new 580 flash paired with a 430 and a 420.
This one... illustrates the reason for visiting the aforementioned store. They have little colored plastic gift/treat bags which work nicely as color gels. NOthing scientific here, just slipped them over both flash heads, blue on one and green on the other. A rubber band would work to hold them onto the flash head if it is windy, otherwise they fit perfectly. So, if your wife drags you to the store to look at the newest rendition of a George Foreman grill, just head over to the gift wrap section and stock up!
Here is one w/o any colors, just two off camera flashes. These were both taken indoors and the 580 triggering system worked very well. Haven't had equal success outside :( i'm already yearning for some PW'ds for outside stuff.
I think they had 5 or 6 different colors. Red,Blue, Green, Purple, Yellow, and maybe a pink?
Spazmo--- I'm sure your caution is correct. I don't think they would be good for any kind of high powered strobe/monolight but for a quickie hotshoe flash such as a 430 I didn't notice any heat build up that would cause a problem. The stroboscopic mode probably wouldn't be a good idea though. For sure not to be used with hot lights.
Another one I've found for various affordable materials is IKEA in the textile department. Curtains, sheers, different colors, thicker, thinner - all at usually cheap prices. Great for the home studio pile.

I can actually enjoy going to IKEA w/my wife. Its like tour bus shopping...the people you start with follow you the whole way. :/ Good idea and thanks!
