I believe that you could be right about this. Unfortunately sometimes the thumbnail looks a lot better then the full size picture.
It may not affect you that much, and I hope it doesn't.
I glance at the thumbs, but then when I am in and voting I never see them. Some people may just vote on their favorite thumbs, but I doubt it is all that many, and remember, if they didn't like your photo they can drag down your score as well as help it. It is average, not total, score, thankfully.
The only time the thumb might make a difference the way I vote is when at the very end I go and look and adjust my votes a little if I think I have been too harsh/easy. That I would do by the thumbs, but don't make an awful lot of adjustments.

This is what I do after I've voted on everything. I start at the bottom and ask myself, do they look about the same? The same quality, the same controls, etc. Then I do my adjusting until I get a page that they all look like they are in the right spots.
This might be one of those challenges where everyone is better served by voting on the first 20% that comes up and giving more time to them, rather than rushing through and trying to vote on all of them.
i'm actually kind of surprised to learn that people vote by looking at thumbs and not the full image. i'd rather not vote at all then do it based on a chunky little blotch that's supposed to represent the full image.
What I have found myself doing, occassionally, and I have to go back and readjust, is if there are a lot of pictures, and I am trying to get through them all, my mind starts "scoring" while the full size loads (which can take a little bit on dial up). Of course, this is only one pic per "session" as after that, I just take what comes up.
As far as voting on thumbnails, that would take more time than just voting, because you would have to click the thumbnail to get the score list, then wait for that score to "register" then go back to the thumbnails and start over. :-/

still life or still-life - A picture of inanimate objects. Common still life subjects include vessels, food, flowers, books, clothing.
Would you say that is a working definition? Hope so, that is what I used as my guideline. I took a beating overnight, first vote was a 7, now with 27 votes it's dropped to a 5! EEK! ;)

Although flowers in a vase are more typically thought of as "still life," flowers in nature can also work. Museum artifacts, boats, doors, windows, and other objects that would not fit within the other categories are acceptable subjects."
This is a quote from this thread from a few days ago. It seems to me a still life can be anything not alive that is interesting enough to photograph! It can also be anything that you photograph to study light, texture, color, shadow, etc....

No those aren't still life. I must confess I may have spoken too soon out of frustration. I haven't looked at any of the thumbs or started voting yet.
What I spoke on was that I've taken my best shot ever (Not a bowl of fruit but most DEFINATELY still life...) and it was well above 7 when I went to bed. I get up and it's barely above 6!
I went from 8.0 to 4.5. (Barely above 6 sounds good to me.)
I'm still dropping like a stone. From a 7 with one vote to a 5 with 27 votes and down to 4.88 with 37 votes. But I still don't care because I know this is a good shot for me. :)

Well this is the last time you'll here from me on this challenge as I do NOT like to complain and HATE the whining threads that pop up every challenge. I'm now below 6 with 42 votes and still NO DAMN COMMENTS!!! If someone would at least give me a "don't fit challenge" comment which wouldn't fit my shot I'd at least not be half as frustrated....
Really I miss interpret what Still Life is. Do youi believe that I post a Cat´s shot? Well, was my first time. I really scramble my thinks and fell that Still Life, was an frozen action. Sorry!!! I´ll learn with time. Thanks by touch this subject. Was very useful to me. I have noted that many people put good shots there, but things that don´t matter to the challenge.
Will be useful, if a more "dummie" description of challenge subject was available.
