It looks pretty amazing. Not sure about the user interface, but definitely has a cool factor. It's a small computer in your hands...web browsing, ipod, photo, email, calender, movies, etc.
I must be the only person on the planet who wants a phone that's a phone. I admit that texting comes in handy occasionally, and I only have the camera phone because my sister is fond of sending me pictures of her dog, but really I want a phone that is a phone. I don't need it to tap dance or drive my car for me or massage my feet. I need it to be a phone. And what's more, I want it to sound like a phone too - trust me the last thing anyone needs to hear is "My Humps" blaring from your coat pocket.

I understand, but eventually no one wants to be carrying around 10 billion devices. A unified, simple, intuitive piece is ideal...we are getting there...

I'm with you... best cell phone I ever had was a simple Nokia that only did phone... nothing else. Worked great. But my current job is to make the components for these cell phones to give you better services in the future... so sigh... everyone please keep upgrading your phones.
i always wanted a phone that was just a phone too. but if this thing actually works AND i can have my ipod AND i can have my calendar then i'm going for mac.
i just upgraded my pc laptop -- i have SO much PC software (paid for, even!), but i'm done with windows. i've seen vista...i hate it. it's a hog. networking is a mess, i have a bajillion cables coming out of my computer, my desktop pc is super loud, and i can't sync my contacts from thunderbird to my windows mobile device.
ciaobella, microsoft. in a few years. when i have money again. :)
thats a sweet phone.... I am going to get one whenever its available I was reading the keynote address in a live text feed and we are all excited here at work. That phone is great its like a pda, ipod and phone all in one. I definently want one and I always needed a pda but never got one cause I could not fine one that would work 100% with my macs.
It is unfortunate that this device only supports 2.5G internet connections. That means it uses Cingular's slower EDGE network and not their high-speed HSDPA (3G) network.
I prefer having a cell phone that doesn't work, that way nobody bothers me.
My service provider right now is Bell, and there is no signal in downtown Burlington, Ontario (pop ~150,000) where I live. This is handy, so I have a good excuse not to be bothered with work while I'm around my town.

One of the problems with 2.5G and 3G is the ever changing standards and the upgrading networks. The next thing after HSDPA in the 3G world is version 8 3GPP called LTE or EUTRAN. LTE is totally TCP/IP based and will have 100MB download speeds with 50MB upload speeds... which may be Cingular's next step in upgrading their network (bypassing HSDPA) and is a big focus in Japan... so does that mean these phones can be upgraded to LTE in a couple of years (probably 3-4 years)?

There is no "bypassing HSDPA" by Cingular. They have it today and many of their Microsoft Windows Mobile-based phones already take advantage of it.

Just got home from work and watched the excellent info that Apple.com has posted. It's definitely an evolutionary step up in cell phone technology. Heck, it's not a cell phone, it's a minicomputer/music/video player that happens to be a phone (and camera too). However, the price, $499 and $599 will keep it from becoming as ubiquitous as the iPod, at least for awhile. BTW, smartypants confirms that it definitely has the cool factor.
