I've heard of bumping up the score, but I've seen Morning Bump and I don't know what that means.
Also.....since I'm looking at our entries....what is USM?
Is that UnSharp Mask?
If not, what is it, and I have seen that in my CS@, but I don't seem to know how to use it.....anyone?
BTW, thanks for making me do this review of our entries. Since I don't really have a time limit, I've been looking at them very close.
I don't know how much you'll get from my uneducated input that will be of any use, but *I* am learning, and appreciate the opportunity to scrutinize your work for ideas.

A bump is to put a thread back on the top 10 list showing on the front page.
USM is unsharp mask. I use it, but I play with the numbers to get a look I like. I don't know if there are any set numbers for particular type of photos.
bump means to post on a thread to bring it up on the front page, even thougth you have nothing new to add - just to keep it active.
USM is unsharp mask. check in the tutorials, how to prepare a shot DPC - it gives usm basics. that's all i can tell you about it.
thanks very much for the PM jeb. there's no problem with commenting on any of my work - if i put it out there, then it can be commented on. i went through art college; i have a very thick skin. basically, once i'm finished a shot, it's done. constructive crits, positive or negative, are always welcome. really. the only crits i don't like are the glib DNMC types, with no further commetns, or ones that are obviously cut and pasted with no further thought.
and i know you would never do that.
jeb, you said in the other thread about the b/w criteria that no-one from team suck had weighed in. maybe because we naturally steer clear of arguing. i agree with what you were saying in the thread, but it seemed to be getting a little heated, over semantics.
USM - if you shoot in RAW, the picture is not sharpened at all in camera. You can check with other Nikon users to see what a recommended value is. For Canon I seem to recall it's something like 300% at a radius of 0.9-1.0 and 0 threshhold, but I find that kinda high with some shots. It's one of those "it depends" things. Smart sharpen is preferred by some.
If you shoot in jpeg, the camera DOES apply sharpening in camera and much lower amounts of USM will do just fine, if any at all.
Photoshop CS2 has a smart sharpening option that some have started using instead of unsharp mask.
Some use high pass sharpening - xianart wrote something up about that I believe. I have used this but forgot how to. It was really nice if you wanted to selectly sharpen parts of your photograph (advanced edit rules only).
Okay, folks, I'm done with the various entries as Mary has them posted. I'm going to go one step further and post my favorites out of this week's offering and publicly state why in the hopes that others will chime in and the offerees get a little extra time in the limelight.
First favorite:
I really have a thing for old buildings so this one is skewed towards my subjective tastes, but this is still really cool. The technical aspects just floor me and I want to learn how to do all this kind of editing.
Second favorite:
Again with the antique/days of old thing.....but I also like the panorama and the tilted effect that this has. Love the colors, too.
Third favorite:
This is so weird, so hot, so funny, so creative.......young lady, you are a talented thing and are going places as long as you never say no to that outstanding inner voice.
I sure have a much better feel for the people I share this team with.....you guys are a terrific group!

The YAPPIE award is given to a commentor for either a particular comment
or a history of great comments.
These are awarded periodically - depends on team work.
Be sure to read the end of the photographer's comments if you want a laugh. :)
Klstover, I find that turning on my camera is easy when I use champagne, soft music, and dark chocolate. Oh, and maybe some porn, like this or, depending on how you value heft vs. length, this. ;)
I'd like to be so bold as to suggest that, in the interest of conserving space in this thread, we avoid pressing the enter/carriage return key at the end of every sentence. It is the enter key/carriage return that causes the double spaced posts. Using it only at the end of a paragraph, or before a new thought will make the post more readable.
