I am sure my questions and posts will die down a little after I get all my questions out heheh, but I do have a question.

I see alot of people taking black and white photos and in the black and white photos they have a part of the photo that is color and only that one spot. What is that called and how do you create that effect? I am new to the editing thing, I dont usually fool around with photos in an programs, but it IS a neat effect and would love to know how they do that, any easy way to explain this to me? :)

By de-saturating all but one hue in Photoshop or PSP or whatever. And may I put in a plea for not getting carried away with it? only a personal opinion of course, but I hate that effect - it's so often used to mask a weak or dull photograph. :-)

e301 is spot-on. It is becoming an overused treatment which is utterly pointless unless you wish to draw attention to a key point or feature in the image (as Spielberg did with the girl in the red coat in Schindler's List).

It can be interesting if it is planned carefully though, in the same way that Hollywood uses blue-screen for effects. If, for instance, you set up a shot of a red apple among green and yellow ones, you could desaturate all the colours except red for a more stark effect.
