Hi Guys,

I know I've been very inactive here these days...
Darn.. It's the new job.. I'm drowning in here..

Ohh well.. I'll have to make up for that with more comments..

Ok.. Need your help here...
I'm looking at using a Rights Managed photo for our webby. It's gonna cost us alot. To go exclusive, it's gonna cost more..
Just the licencing fees will kill me!

Question 1:
Is it legal to do a re-shoot of the shot? considering we like the concept a lot... Looking at the cost, that's probrably the cheapest!

Question 2:
Can I purchase RF photos and Digitally compose the image and use that for my webby and other advertising stuffs?

Question 3:
Any cheaper alternatives? We're looking at about 40KUSD of licencing fees here.. that'll probrably make the photographer very very happy..
Don't know how much of it goes to him tough..

Only if you don't count the cost of litigation : )

That's a situation where it may or may not be legal, but expensive to find out what a judge thinks.

Hmm..

Sounds bad.. Especailly when the legality is questionable!

Say, if the shot is reshot at a different setting with different clothings etc?

Fundamentally, the concept .. ie intent of the Shot is similar.. but overall look and feel is different....

I thought there is no copyright on a concept, only on the picture itself.

If you buy a RF pic(s) at Istock, Shutterstock, ... you can alter them like you wish.

But if you want to be sure, read their terms of usage.

I think you're not supposed to sell the image only.

But for my use .. it should be alright..
