10. Excellent as far as photo goes, I love the lighting.
Personally, I find Darwin and his theories to be more fiction than science, but that's just what I believe (and a several milion others agree with me).
obviously, he's more interested in posting his opinion
(as I'm doing here now) on the subject matter involved than on the technical merits of the picture. "Excellent as far as photo goes...." it's like the photo is secondary in importance. but judging photos on technical merit IS what we do here isn't it? why need it turn into and amazon.com book review (just another excuse for a soapbox)??
people judge photos any way they choose, technically, artistically, does it meet the challenge, is there wow effect...i'm not sure what photo this is in reference to but if there is any type of political statement made in a photo, some people are likely to disagree with you given the vast numbers of people on dpc, and it sounds like the comment is just an example of that.

Just 'technical' merit? Well, yes, I think that's what most people do ... what we should do, in my opinion, is judge photos as photographs - which includes technical merit, but also includes the subject and content.
This guy is hardly a troll - he says he scored the photo 10 for God's sake! - and i think it is absolutely valid to make a point like that. It's hardly offensive, even though it is couched in defensive terms. You might think he's silly (as do I), but he's got the grace to score a photo that goes against his beiefs so highly ... I wish there were more such understanding folks here. And anyone who wants to troll my photos with 10's is more than welcome.
This is not a troll comment. This is someone offering their opinion on the subject matter that was chosen to be photographed.
I just finished reading another thread where someone "complained" or wondered why people only commented on the technical aspects of the picture, and never considered the intent or purpose of the picture. Here, someone was commenting on the intent or purpose of the picture as they saw it.
It seems to me if we want people to comment on the pictures, we should not publically display them in a way as to put it down. That is not very encouraging, to say the least. If it is helpful, learn from it. If it is not, move on.
Is this a comment you received on a challenge that hasn't been completed yet? If so it's only good form to wait until the challeng is completed before posting stuff like this or omit the commenters name.
Your best bet is to PM if you have issues with the comment.
But that could backfire (low score) if done before the challenge is over. Not that I would do anything of the sort.

He might actually be correct. Most of Darwins thoeries have been replaced by more modern thoeries, such as 'Ultra-Darwinism' and 'punctuated eqilibria' that better fit the observations.
You all have very good points..i certainly did not want to start a firestorm.
as jonpink (very quickly deduced) that yes, i do love golf, and that's my opinion.
but what if i said, "i love golf, and MILLIONS of other people agree with me"
how can someone speak on behalf if millions of other people? why exactly do they love
golf? I cant say? nor can i say why so-called millions reject darwin's theories,
we dont know, really, we may think we do but we don't know whats going on in peoples
minds. if i see a sunset, i think it's great, but i surely can't have the audacity to
say that millions of other people think exactly the way i do. anyway, my belief is
that this kind of comment does not impart value on the photo even though have gave it
a ten.
But neither is your comment about golf, you didn't comment on the image did you? in fact, a lot of your comments neglect to mention about the image, such as "Nice Bike". that isn't helpful to anyone (unless your a bike designer)
But, we can all comment how we like, and that's what we like about this site!
Anyway, millions do like golf. Including me! ;) Whaddaya play off?

up? anyway, it's one thing to give your OWN opinion..but you don't have the right(
of course you can say anything you want, i'll call it the 'right of the judge')to
include millions of other people in your opinion. unless of course you are Kim Jong

I guess I just don't get it. Why do we want to pick apart comments left on photos? I see nothing offensive in this persons statement. The more I see threads like this complaining about commenters, the less I want to comment myself. There is nothing wrong with stating your beliefs along with a comment on a photo.
All I see is someone making a statement about where he stands on Darwin's theory of evolution verses the Bible's explanation.
Ok, I'm the one that made that horrible comment... and sorry I couldn't resist adding my personal opinion, but I don't see how that offends anyone. So there's millions that agree with me, and probably just as many that agree with you... big deal, I just made a statement. Anything wrong with letting people know where I stand on an issue? Not everybody equates Darwin with science OK? Get over it, people are alowed to have a personal opinion, and you made your statement by posting the photo.
I have tried to be objective, critical but not greedy with my votes, but it looks like not everybody here is as friendly here and obviously the "survival of the fittest" is the norm around here (that explains how some of the best photos get 2s and 3s, people trying to bring others averages down on purpose)
BTW, I didn't change my vote, but maybe I won't be quite so generous in the future.
Paul, don't let this guy bother you. There was absolutely nothing wrong with your comment. Please don't let this prevent you (or anybody else) from adding your comments to photos that make you want to express a thought. To me, any comment means that the author was moved in some way by your photo. Whether it be praise or criticism, all comments are welcomed.
Don't let it bother you! That was a great comment. Just another person complaining about comments. Very sad!

Offend, offending and offense are NOT what I'm taking away from your comments. I
feel no anger towards you or your position. If you were to speak to me on the phone
you could see that my voice contains no anger regarding this matter.I merely just
wanted to clarify my disagreement with your comments and they way they were
portrayed. "Why do we want to pick apart comments left on photos?" Why do we have
forums if not to discuss issues, comments and ideas about the site? I'm just as much
fair game as anybody else. Why, if I disagree with someone is it automatically
deemed to be negative? To me it's constructive. I may not like it when someone
blasts my photos(or my comments about them) but I don't take personal offense
to it.
We are much more as human beings than whats on our mind.....
gowf67, I think it was rude of you to post the name of the person that posted the comment. If you felt that the comment was offensive, you do have the ability to address your dislikes with the person by sending him/her a personal message.
If you wanted to discuss an issue you feel the greater community might benefit from, it would be less offensive if you made a blanket statement about the issue, such as "why do you feel someone could/should/would comment on the political/social/scientific nature of an image?".
By including the name, you brought the discussion to a personal level. When I see someone do this, I tend to think that it would be much safer to not leave a comment. Ever. Just my view.
ok folks... I think this thread should be put to rest. We've expressed how we feel (both sides) and no reason to beat a dead horse. Unless you have some new revelation on the subject I think private message is the way to go. I'd rather leave things as they are and not create a major debate on the issue.
pcody was right I handled the issue incorrectly for that I am truly sorry.
you all have been very helpful in my time here, your photos have inspired
me, allowed me to see photography in a truly new way. It's your very passion

Not to get technical hear, but if only several million agree with you out of a population of over 6 billion, you may want to reconsider. Heck, that's only support from 0.05% of the population.*
