Ok, it doesn't suck, but I do have one gripe. There are way too many variables involved in viewing them. If I print a photo and hang it on my wall, everyone viewing it sees roughly the same thing I do. However, a digital photo is totally at the mercy of the viewer's hardware and setup. Contrast, brightness, color balance, monitor quality all have huge influence on the finial result. To truly see what I had intended, you all need to come to my house and vote on my computer. Maybe we should all agree to calibrate our monitors to some mutual standard.
So print your digital photos, hang them on your wall, and don't upload them to the net...then it's the same thing.
Sharing online is a bonus - there are hardware and software calibrations, but in reality, it comes down to older monitors tend to be crap and newer monitors tend to be alright.

I'm noticing a trend... I had a similar complai... er, observation after my first challenge on the site.
I had suggested we move the graduated grey strip to the top of the voting pages, so that it is more prominent.
Asking people to calibrate their monitors so that each graduation in the grey strip is visible is, realistically, the best we can probably hope for from most users on the site. Although I think an more indepth article/page discussing the topic, perhaps presented to new users when they join, might be an idea as well.
I had this problem this week. I'm in Idaho visiting relatives. They have an old computer, and the photos were all very dark. I gave up voting, before I met 20%, it wasn't fair to rate what I couldn't see properly. Van
