one thing i have benefited most from is looking at all the different angles an lighting people have used here and I try to put that to use in my photos. the result is I have gotten a few photos that really stand out over the rest of my photos....
I just browsed some of your pics and I think you show promise.
I hope you don't mind my saying this, but one of the key elements you may need to concentrate on is composition. Some of your shots are quite centralised, so learning from the excellent photographers on this site by looking at how some of them make interesting viewpoints of ordinary subject matter will help a lot. Try taking your shots from anything other than typical human head-height. If you've got a wacky subject you can try rotating the camera - crouch when taking shots of tall subjects to exaggerate height - off-centre isolated subjects, etc.
Keep going - I think everyone has felt like you at some time - I certainly have! ;)
I can see by the comment you made on my Lighting entry you take the time to look at the photo, not just dismiss it out of hand because of some slight flaw you might perceive. Thank you.
I can visualize what I want (and boy does it look fantastic in my mind), but making it a reality is beyond me.
That's exactly it! I often have a plan in my mind for exactly the shot I want, and it never quite works out that way.
I've ended up just coming up with a vague idea, taking lots of shots and waiting until I see what ended up on the memory card before deciding what I was "trying to do" :-)

I'm heading out to do some shooting now, maybe I'll find something shadow II worthy along the way.
I am seeing a bit of an improvement as the challenges come up score wise, I'm sure it'll just take time and more practice.
I think part of the frustration also comes from having great photos using a film camera (imo) and not being able to duplicate that success with digital (again imo). I'll get there though. :)
Ganders, I feel you, I really do. Right now my lighting shot is the first one where I felt it matched the image I had in my head. Its just not speaking to everyone else is all. I'm pleased with it though.
