Are none of the talented photographers here asking for critiques anymore? I've had a never ending string of average shots to look at and think about recently, and I'm going to give up this thing soon otherwise. I mean the CC, rather than DPC.
Not being uppity, or arrogant, but I really have had to dredge up some stuff about very bad photos, and it's most unfulfilling - especially as it doesn't seem to matter a damn to the subjects/victims of my critiques.
Think I'd prefer to going back to freely commenting on the photos that just strike me as intersting.
I don't know if I count, but I've been ticking the box asking for critiques for months without receiving any. I thought loads of people were in the same boat... there was a thread about it a while back. I thought the critique club had been abandoned?
I've been skipping asking for most of my recent string of below-average (scoring-wise, anyway) shots. But if any of them interests you, please feel free to fire away! I've only gotten one CC review in about two months.
I'm another non-talented photographer that asked for a critique on my first two submissions. That's ok though, if you don't feel like looking at it. I haven't asked for one since then. Somewhere there was a post saying that that system wasn't working well. Now, I guess, I know why. Not meaning to be snotty and ungrateful.
I, too, have asked for critiques but have had no response. As one of the mediocre lot I suppose it is boring to you but there are some of us who would attempt to improve as a result of good direction. Anne
Did it ever occur to you that the "aweful" photos might be the ones that need the most help??
To the people requesting the CC, please don't be discouraged from hitting the CC button. This is NOT how everyone in the CC feels. I for one, dislike getting the "great" shots because I have no helpful info to offer.
The more I can help out, the better I feel. I thought that was the purpose of the CC. It is apparent though that not everyone feels this way, but please don't let it discourage you from requesting a critique.
I have entered.... I don't know.... uhhh 75 Plus photos...and I think I have asked for one or two.... CC.....and I got them...I think just entering... and "bracing" for the onslaught of..... DPC Comments is enough for ME..... enjoy..... This is supposed to be fun...ask me,.. ask someone in a PM.... I am sure... they would try their best to help....

I suggest that a few of you join and take off some of the load, and you'll be more likely to get a review. I think everyone who has posted to this thread is "qualified."
I'm sorry. My critique skills are as lacking as my photography ones. I would hurt the feelings of too many sensitive artists.
But, I can understand what you're saying about burn out. It was more of the way he said it than not getting a critique that bothered me. I find I am learning more by looking and scoring pictures than I would if I got a personal critique.

Its an idea and one I'm tentatively interested in, but I don't know many of the technical phrasings and as has been mentioned in other threads, I doubt folks would take my critique with much weight since I don't score very well (and rightly so) on the challenges.
I try to limit showcasing my ignorance to three times daily. ;)
I also try to get fairly indepth with my challenge comments and haven't had anyone PM me saying I obviously don't know what I'm talking about ... yet - but my perception is folks would have higher expectations of knowledge and technical expertise from a 'critique club' member.

Just my thoughts, I could very well be wrong.
Like I said, everyone who's posted to this thread is qualified, IMO.
Read this Tutorial, then write one or two "practice" critiques (of my photos if you want) and send them to me. I will verify for you that my initial impression was correct.
Disclaimer: I am not now, nor have I ever been a member of the Critique Club; I am just a full-time kibitzer ...
Is there a way to be a part time critiquer (sp) ? I have tons of time during the summer to do this but this time of year sucks for me. I don't honestly know how I got three photo's into the challenges this week. I would LOVE to try and help but don't wanna commit to anything I can't follow up on.
Is there a way to see (specifically) comments left by the critique club to get an idea of the different formats and wording people use? Without going through random profiles and searching the comments for such critiques that is. :)

Way to go Heather! I think you are totally right. Please keep up the good work. I always love getting a critique from you.
I have to agree with a lot of people here that I think it is the "awful" shots that need the most comments. What is the point of an indpepth critique on a perfect photo?
I usually ask for a critique, though I have yet to get one (but understand why). However, if I know a photo I put in is not the best I can do and can see myself easily enough how to make it better, O don't waste people's time by asking them to critique.
But remember ... when I first started this I thought my shots were excellent, not winners, but excellent. With more experience I can see they were in some cases shocking and obviously wrong .... but at the time they were excellent to me.

There are 202 photos in the CC queue. I'm a member of the CC, but have not done a critique in weeks. Last time I did, however, there were about 250 in the queue -- so it appears that some critiques, at least, are being performed.
Sorry, guys. The CC is/was a great idea, but I have enough trouble just VOTING on 400-ish photos per week. I have two jobs, a creaky old house, and would like to actually TAKE a photograph once in a while. I'm sure I'm in the same boat as many other CC members.
If you truly want to breathe some more life back into the program, I suggest you either volunteer to perform the critiques (you don't have to be an expert -- I certainly am not and I knew NOTHING about photography before I joined this site) OR you just comment on photos as you vote.
Every comment does not have to be an in-depth critique. True, there are also a lot of photos on here that don't inspire much commentary. But, and I've said this before, I would much rather have 10 1-line comments that give me a variety of opinions than 1 10-line comment from one point of view.
You get out of this site what you put into it. I don't even get to vote as much as I'd like, let alone comment, let alone do in-depth critiques. Please participate as much as you can, and know that there are PLENTY of others out there who would like to do the same as much as they are able.
As a member of the CC, I have pretty much abandoned it. Sorry! I'm on a dial-up, and just don't have the time anymore. For that reason, I rarely check the box to receive an in depth critique. Fair is fair.
