Have you seen the movie animation (Chicken Run)?
use a quote from it like "Which come first the chicken or the egg?"
or "We got to be organized, we dont want to be chicken pie!"

I think something a little more subtle in the balloon would work better for the horse one, instead of the blatant explanation of what they were doing, maybe something like, "On the count of three.. 1, 2..." or something similar.
