You might want to set all manual controls to 'on the fly' settings. Before I leave to take pictures - if I remember to - I set aperture priority to F/6 or 8, time priority to 1/125 and manual to F/6 & 1/125, ISO is alway on 400 as a standart. If you've been using an aperture in apeture priority that won't fit the picture which offers itself for 1 second, just switch to time priority, and you'll have standard settings which suit most occasions again.
