I managed to get this macro of a squirrel, and I thought it was pretty good. All the editing that I did was I applied a high pass filter and re-contrasted the image a little bit. I think the high pass filter was applied at a radius of 2.5, but I can't remember.
Squirel
I would appreciate any comments that people have on this picture. In cropping to put the eyes of the squirrel on the thirds I lost some of the left-hand side of the squirrel, it was a shame but I thought it looked better this way.
This is a real nice shot of a Grey squirrel. A red squirrel would have been a better subject with this background though and, this little guy appears to be eating an oak acorn. Squirrels like pecans much better than acorns. Did you crop his bottom half because you injured him? I hope not. Maybe you should show the rest of him so we can see for ourselves.

I come from the Isle of Wight and I think that is the only place they have red squirrels. They are good looking animals.
Although this is a grey squirrel isnt it?
I agree that a red squirrel would have made a very nice picture, but unfortunately our indigenous red squirrels are all but extinct. Ever since grey squirrels were introduced to the United Kingdom, they have started to take over from our indigenous red squirrels. The result of this is that we have very few reds left, and they now only live in isolated pockets where they are protected. He was also not injured, and whilst I was walking around the park I could only find acorns, for some reason pecans did not fall out of the trees that were around there.
The picture itself was taken at a local National Trust Park called Dunham Massey -- this park is located near Manchester in England. For reference to anyone else who lives around here and wants to take a picture of a red squirrel, the closest location that I know where you can do so is Merseyside near Liverpool.
