This is one of the stupidest things I've heard of... well... ever. It will only cover about 1/3 of our border with Mexico, so the imigrants will just travel to an unfenced area... duh! And will cost BILLIONS!
I'm no fence-sitter on this issue - it is beyond comprehension that money will be spent on this project.
Humor aspect: When living in New Mexcio we would make the occassional Run to the Border, the closest being Juarez. While on the bridge crossing the Rio Grande (walking across the border) numerous individuals were observed -going both ways- wading across the river. Within site of border patrol. In broad daylight. Every time we crossed. Every.

Actually, I doubt that the fence will work. Too many tunnels have been made to go under the border. I won't comment about throwing $$$ we don't have in the budget without providing funding for the project.
One of my neighbors took her last vacation in Mexico; think Bush will fund a new back yard fence for my house? Bet he would if i could get a lobbyist to back it.
Call your Gov'ner, he has an in with the Prez; I'm sure they could swing a deal where part of that fence goes through your backyard.
Just don't let the kids play near it when the BP sends the juice through it. Or in the DMZ 25 yards on either side where the land mines will be. Or further out where the laser surveillance system will be. Hmmmm, I think your new fence will be the talk of the neighborhood!!!

Ack! Doesn't sound like I'd be too popular with the neigborhood. I think the Homeowners' Association has a problem with land mines!
Hmmm on second thought, land mines would probably take care of the kids that walk on the sidewalk talking way too loud on their cell phones when they SHOULD be at home doing homework or helping their parents.
God, our wonderful (I say that while grimacing and crossing both fingers behind my back) governor is even using this crap as part of his re-election campaign. Because he was the Lt. Gov when Bush was governor (I miss Ann Richards to this day) they say he is "helping keep our borders secure."

It is absolutely inane that there was a bill signed into law today regarding that stupid use of our tax payers money and we didn't get to vote? Come on, people! That is the most wasteful spending ploy I've ever heard of. It makes the President of Enron's party budget look like a piss in the pot. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Don't worry idnic, this bill was just for pre-election "show and tell". They'll find a way to unfund it after November. Bush and Co. benefit from illegal immigration just as much as the democrats.
That will leave those billions to help pay for services for those immigrants.

Does anyone believe that the US "leadership" would actually try to close the border when the people who own the government have such a vested interest in the $$$ brought by the flood of drugs and cheap labor that come over the border? The "fence" is just another way for politicians to channel $$$ to the entities who really run our country; (in this case Boeing) while perpetrating the con game that they are acting in the interest of Americans.
