One of my biggest complaints with DPC has always been the TROLL comments. I wish we would be able to remove or at least hide the comments that offend us.
I have never before been so offended by someone telling me a photo doesn't meet the challenge or that they don't get the tie in to the challenge as I was when someone was so disrectful to type it all in caps lock. Not only does that signify yelling in the cyber world but it is also rude espeically somewhere like here.
I could care less if they don't like the photo or it doesn't fit the challenge, they can leave that comment anytime they want. Sometimes I will even explain the tie into the challenge to that person in an email. But do we really have to put up with the inconsideration of the trolls who think that is perfectly fine to disrespect everyone and try to prove just how superior they are to everyone else by YELLING there comment?
When will DPC get a box to check that says I don't want any troll comments or at least the ability to hide comments we find offensive. I know this is the cyber world and all but it just isn't right that everytime I look at that photo I should have to see that disrespectful comment in all CAPS!
Am considering entering a couple of upcoming challenges. Have sent my money for member classification. Have read several postings regarding "trolls". My question is simply: In the member only challenges, can "trolls" leave comments or are these closed to member only submission/voting?

Anyone can leave a comment on any photo in any challenge. Members only challenges can only be voted on by members. There are a lot less troll comments in the members only challenges. I will say that!

Why do you feel the need for a site feature to hide troll comments? Can you not just read them once and then ignore them?
If you really can't do that, and if they are personally attacking you or extremly rude (by this I mean foul language etc) you can ask a site council member to edit or remove the comment, and further action will be looked into against the "troll".
If there is going to be a box saying 'hide my bad comments' then surely we should have one saying 'hide these moaning posts'
That's why this thread is in rant forum and not a different part of the forum so it doesn't show on the homepage! This forum is to moan so if you don't like the moaning posts don't read it! That's what rant is for to rant or as you put it moan.

After checking out the persons comments left so far I am sure it won't be long before site council has to do something. Most of the comments left by her so far were rude. I didn't see a constructive comment in the 30some comments left so far.
Defining what's troll and what's not, is the difficult part, I think. To be able to freely delete comments we don't like would result in a very subjective column. I don't think this is, really, what we want or is it?
My choice of dealing with these types of comments is to either ignore or expose them for what they are by briefly commenting myself, after the challenge is over.

In my opinion (which suprisingly seems to be the against the norm) we are just so god darn lucky to be able to see and to afford cameras and computers that we can participate in such challenges.

I think the trolls are so few and far between that it won't really effect your overall ranking so nowt to worry about. They can't see who shot what image so it's also non personal.
I'm not talking about negative comments about the photo, I'm talking only about personal and explicit comments such as "You must be a &@$% to think this is good!".
Comments like "THIS PHOTO SUCKS!" aren't actually doing anything wrong, and you just have to learn to live with them.

Also I use my DPC portfolio to show people some of the photos I have taken, and I recently used it for a job interview by directing them to the portfolio, which proved I was qualified for the position and was also the main reason I got the interview. But would I want a potential employer to see the troll comments? No. My portfolio is now ruined here and that was one of my benefits to the membership, the portfolio. Sad that someone who thinks it is fun to leave undeserved comments can tarnish something so easily.

Why not simply print your images and take them with you to the interview, or post a hard copy. It makes you look better anyway.
If print costs are a problem, then there are plenty of free sites that will allow you to post just images.

Can you share the comments with us? If they are indeed "@"@:!!! words then fair enough, but when you say 'undeserved' it sounds like you think your images are better than anything.

I do have a portfolio of 60 photos I take with me almost everywhere, but I can't send all 60 photos with a coverletter and resume in the mail. The portfolio here is just simple to add to my resume the site address and allow them a chance to take a look at here in advance. It really did a lot for me.
When someone calls you stupid, it´s just hurtful and it doesn´t help one to take better photos...take off the caps..if you don´t like the photo...ok...say so in a polite manner, don´t just throw horrible words out there...and as for the person in question...her photos might do with a little help and as for fitting the challenge...she can be way off too
I just took a look at some of the comments coming from the person that OneSweetSin is referring to. The comments are quite bad and very immature. I really hate to say this and I'm probably going to get hammered for it, but they almost seem to be made by a teen.
I offend people (unintentionally) just by the simple fact of applying regulations and laws that I enforece everyday at work. Some people are also offended that we have the gall to search their luggage. But that's just the way travel is these days. That said, it's a part of life that you will offend people and that some people will offend you.
That would be a lovely feature... I think that deleting comments that I don't like would be cool :)

Honestly I took a look at the person's comments and seriously I want to know what she is doing here.
We aren't in agreement. I was being sarcastic. I think it's a foolish idea. We bitch about not getting enough feedback and then we bitch about the feedback we get.
If one can't handle the idiots among us, then one should not make photos available to them for comment.
