I started a new thread about monitor calibration today, and discovered a few old threads about the same topic.
It seems that monitor calibration, especially for brightness, is a real issue on the site. Many photographs I've seen so far here have a lot of contrast and subtle shades of darker gray that are lost on a poorly calibrated monitor.
To correct this, I have two humble suggestions:
1) Make the grey calibration strip on the voting page more prominent. For example:
2) In the site FAQ, perhaps include a link to more in-depth calibration information. Maybe even present this information when a new user signs up.
These changes could help ensure that all voters are seeing the "same" image, hopefully improving the overall site experience for everyone.
What does anyone else think?
Let me finish by saying that this is the coolest site I've been to in a while, and the first online community I feel motivated to participate in regularly. Kudos to all who created the site and maintain it now. |
