I usually do the same, sometimes with a black outer border, but at DPC sizes I usually use 2 pixels for the inner and 5-10 for the outer.
I normally put larger frames on for prints, but for voting people seem to like thinner ones.
Try to make sure the highlight color doesn't exactly match a section on the edge, or the inner line will "disapper" for part of the image. Unless you want it to do that for artistic effect ...
