Just wanted to share...as I received a few comments questioning whether I simply colorized the photo to be purple.



Now, it wasn't the greatest photo. I'll admit that. And I did do some minimal processing (very slight shift and increased saturation.

Anyways, here is the original and another from the shoot.





Haku is a Japanese Kunisar rat snake which has a natural bluish hue. But when combined with the cheap flourescent light and the purple notebook for the background hue, the result is fairly purple. IMHO.

In truth, the entry did better than I expected it to do.

I've got a good shot of one of these snakes in the wild (well, on a school hedge). Will link sometime later. ;-)

Except for a few voters I don't think changing the color to purple mattered much since it seem just about everyone got those low votes so I wouldn't worry about that.

By any chance did you shoot this through glass? It seems like you had to deal with a bit of a haze or something. It seems to just not be clear enough.

Yes, sadly it was thru the glass. But it was also a macro shot (he's a fairly small guy) and had a very shallow depth of field. I was focusing mainly on the eye. Which I was fairly pleased with how it came out.

That said, I do not have a true macro lens at this time. So it's really a 70-200mm with a 500D filter.
