I wasn't sure where to put this thread, so I guess it's going in 'rant'.
After reading the 'addicted' thread, amongst most of the points I identified with, was whether you take all your pictures so they are DPC-legal. Well, I'm fed up with waiting for another challenge that stretches our post-processing skills... does anyone know a good site which is very much like DPC only allowing more Photoshop work? Not somewhere like worth1000 which is daft, but a site where people make art! And use their own photos. And perhaps somewhere that nurtures Photoshop as a tool for making natural looking photos as well as digital art?
I can't emphasise enough how much I think the rules need to start changing here. As I showed in my sports pic, it's easy enough to make pictures look unnatural and filtered with the current rules. And if the rules ask for natural looking photos, you don't think the voters won't put miscreants in their place?! The occasional digital art competition won't hurt either as long as it's made clear that you must use your own photos!
//www.renderosity.com is good for all mediums, 3D, Photography etc. They have challenges, but not as often or as well as DPC!
But you can submit anything as long as it's your own work, and 'over-there' they appreciate good retouching skills, and give good commentary too.
I used to enjoy their Poser challenges when I started getting into 3d. I didn't realise they did straight photography as well. I am looking for something more like DPC though with weekly challenges...
Maybe it's me but FredMiranda is not exactly an easy site to navigate. I can't for the life of me work out what the current challenges are, or the rules.
oh ok. go into the forums. there are 2 forums. one for weekly challenges and one for monthly. usually the topics are suggested in advance by the populace and chosen by vote.
then you submit your pic by creating a forum thread for it with the # of the challenge in the title of the thread.
then the top pics get voted on ..

They are in the forums - usually at the top of the message list.
Also good - started by a DPC'er, lots of DPCers submitting pics there. What they need is to not allow you to submit anything from your entire portfolio, but rather a week to week or a "must be taken this month" rule. :)
I've been looking for a place with a good strong community, people willing to discuss advanced techniques, sensible contest rules and a focus on photography.
