I was supposed to do a photo shoot, outside of course, with a senior girl today and they wanted the shots outside. And of course, its a cold, dreary, rainy day. I'm just starting in the business, so is it a better decision to reschedule and try to find somewhere, like an old barn, to do the shots or just reschedule the whole thing? I'd say reschedule but I'm not sure what the client will say. Any advise is appreciated.

Well, what I'd do is to make backup plans- find another place to shoot and figure out another day you'd be available (maybe even check a weather forecast)- and then call the client and ask which they prefer.

Might be the easiest way to go...

Unfortnately, the weather forcast changed overnight. When I went to bed, the sky was completely clear and stars were shining. Was supposed to be a partly sunny day with a slight chance of showers. I live in Ohio...it changes in a moment.

I would go for the shoot, find exciting locations and use a reflector to give your shots some life since cloudy light is very flat.

In the fall/winter months you're going to get a lot of that so I would go ahead with it and try and use it to your advantage. Clouds are a natural diffuser so you wont have to worry about harsh lighting. You will have to make up for the lack of bright light with a silver/gold reflector and/or a WB setting like cloudy -2 to add a little glow.

One of the annoying things about cloudy days is the white sky so try and pick places and angles that avoid having the sky in the shot. If it was raining then use that as props and include puddles for mood or reflections.

You may not get the cheerful bright shots that you want but you should still be able to capture some. Instead of seeing the weather as an obstacle try and incorporate it as an atmosphere or theme of the shoot.

You are just south of the Ohio State Arboretum, if google is correct.... Look at something like that, where you get an outside look while inside.

Any arboretum...or garden center that has inside displays...would work today
