I am very new to editing software, so please excuse my ignorance. When I'm editing, I'm using a mouse. Is there some kind of mouse that is shaped like pen so I can be more precise and have more control of what I do? I love cloning out distracting backgrounds, but I have a hard time being precise around my subject. I would also like to try changing eye color, but can't pin point exactly where my color needs to be.

What you need is called a graphics tablet. It's a square surface that comes with a pen.

Have you ever tried using a Trackball?
Once used to it, you'll never use a mouse again, and your wrist will thank you,
as it is only the 3 middle fingers & thumb movement used.

Logitech Trackman Wheel.

I do all my editing with one and find it very accurate & easy to use.

Trackballs are excellent for general purpose mousing, especially since you can cross the screen really quickly. Some have the wheel positioned to be manipulated with the thumb (as pictured), and some with the fingers -- you need to play with them in the store to find out which feels comfortable to you.
