IF your camera have "S" mode that means you can adjust the shutter speed manually!
But because you don't know how,your camera does it for you,isn't that nice ?! :-)
My camera is the big brother to yours. You should have a Program mode with a button "AE" click until you see a "AEs" and with the control pad you can increase and decrease the shutter speed.
Shutter Speed faster = 1/1000 (of a second) Sports photos, birds wings (freezing)
Shutter Speed slower = 8"(Seconds) Star shots, cool braking lights making red trails (my favorite)
Hmm..if my camera doesnt have manual settings...then how come when i look at the stats of my images, there are varying shutter speeds? some are 1/50, 1/60, 1/10, 1/30, etc.
Some of the smaller Sony cameras are point and shoot and doesn't have many options. They're small enough to put in a purse/backpack whatever and most of the shots are automatically set for you.
Basically a good "snapshot" camera. Pull it out, turn it on, and it should give you a decent picture. Yet still a lot better then those cell phone cameras.

Your camera is point and shoot,fully automatic.
To increase shutter speed use:
ISO 400,EV -2 and Portrait set up!
