I dont have any outtakes to post (the only variation I had was the addition of a Larson signature that my wife suggested I leave out) but I do have my original to post. I would love to see others originals here as well.
I wondered how he got that elephant in his living room. I just saw this pic in "Most Viewed News Pics" on the UK & Ireland Yahoo! News site. I was amazed to see it online after I saw it here.
this is probably what i should have submitted. i went for the straight quotw of the larson, but neglected to think that, as i was doing an interpretation of the image, i should have a stronger connection.

i'm still trying to find a copy of the original to post here, but have yet to. two typcial larson people answer the door. standign ther is a man wreathed in flames, poking out his right arm. hence the title - llok out, it's a red hot poker.
bad pun, but it's one of my favourites - stuck with me since high school - and that was a looong time ago.
I knew what I wanted to do straight off so I really don't have any outtakes per say. But I am posting a close-up of the coffee label because it is really the details that help make the image.

I know the concept is not a Larson original but I felt it emulated his style. Back in 2001 I had created a Bryce image and always wanted to go back and recreate as a photograph.
My outtake - I didn't use it, because I didn't think it would be legal.
My entry obviously sucked as evidenced by my second brown ribbon. Next time, I guess I won't try to use originality. I'll just copy someone else for the next tribute challenge. ;)
Finally, I get to enter my composite where somebody can look at it. What a terrible irony to keep me out of the only challenge I really cared about. Anyhow, I figured since I couldn't be in the challenge anyway...Forget about the rules!
Sooooo, here is my mighty fine four jpegs into one composite that still leaves a little to be desired. But...Hey...I will keep on trying!
Here is another possibility I was working on for the Far Side challenge. It came about because the Single Tree challenge was in the same week, and everything started "marrying up" inside my head.
I also tried to get her jumping out to make a "Mission Failed" sort of gag:
This one here was my favourite apart from the blown highlights on the washer. Really pissed me off when I noticed them and it wasn't as if I could ask the cat to repeat the pose.
Then I'd also considered putting a caption in to make it more cartoony but then decided to just let the photo speak for itself:
