Well, taking shots of birds and other moving things is sure hard, I have recently found out.
My Minolta7i has an 'action' mode, but every time I try and use it does not seem to really help me in these situations, can anyone HELP!?!? thanks ! (now why didn't I post this before sports and flight!!!)

Have you got manual mode on that camera? If so you should try and get your shutter speed as high as possible which means a larger aperture (smaller number). If you put it on aperture priority, ensure its on the smallest number possible. Also are you tracking your subject? IE a bird taking off you will be following the bird before taking the photo. This will reduce the amount of blurriness of your subject whilst blurring the background - a very nice effect :) Also if your camera can take multiple pictures when you release the shutter, turn this on for nature. You will find that there is a better pose that the bird has out of the 3 or so you take.

Ok , I can try some of those tips, I just thought if I set my cam on motion/action mode, it somehow did some of those things by itself, but perhaps not. thanks

Taken with A (apriture priority,smallest number) F2.6
with 6X zoom ,1/800 sec with EV + 0.3.

if you have a S (shutter priority) mode on that camera, bump your shutter speed up as high as possible.

the sports mode is sorta like a shutter-priority, but not a really good one. for fast action, you definitely want to do it manually.
