I took this photo at the Dallas Zoo and did identify the bird.

Just that the first one looks like a member of the Kingfisher family, and the second is probably an antelope fo some kind.

The bird is definately in the Kingfisher family, which includes Kookaborras. I think it is an Amazon Kingfisher, but there are several similar looking. Van

Might be a blue winged kookaburra, but your picture is better and the bird no where near as angry as in this shot:

They do look somewhat similar.

Yes. I think so too. Grows to about a foot tall.
