Does anyone know the best way to do the shots of drawing with trails of light as Picaso did in the shots by Gjon Mili? Any suggestions/adivce would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
He used different methods so maybe post the one with the method you want to mimic.
I found this gallery ( //www.vpphotogallery.com/photog_mili.htm ) with samples of his work. The one at the end of the second row I think is what you're referring to.
I wasn't aware he used different methods, I've only seen a couple pics with the same style, lines of light forming a picture and the person drawing in sharp focus. Such as the one in the gallery you presented, end of the second row.
I would guess you get someone to draw out a shape with a flashlight in a dark room, shoot it with a long exposure. You then use a flash to light up the person. This way only the flash lights up the person, and they stay sharp. If the room isn't dark enough they will leave a trail.
If you read the explanation to the Centaur picture, the flash went off first, taking the picture of Picasso, who then proceeded to do the air-drawing with the lightpan in the dark while the shutter remained open. Simple, really.
I was thinking something like that. What works best with making the light paths? it seems the beam from a flashlight would be too bright, is a laser pointer effective?
