I just returned last week from my trip through northern California, Oregon and Washington and had a really great time. I wanted to thank everyone hwo gave me such great advice on what to see -- ArtRoflmao, DrAchoo, jbsmithana, aaronb532, GerneralE, MikeJ, LucidLotus, charliebaker, mycelium, Beetle, caba, Dr.Confuser, ladyhawk22, levij413, Faye Pekas, and micknewton. If I missed anyone, thank you too!
I had to visit several friends and relatives on this trip and tried to see way too many sights, so it was very much a whirlwind tour. Next time, I'll take it slower and spend more time in fewer locations -- and hopefully meet some other DPCers as well.

You'd both be more than welcome, Bear and Aaron. :-) The first two days driving up the California and Oregon coast were completely fogged in (like in the bridge photo), but the weather was perfect for the rest of the trip. I couldn't have asked for better conditions.

I actually dropped my camera and favorite lens (Canon 10-22mm) into the Bridalveil Falls water in the Columbia River Gorge. I knew how to fix the camera --which meant no more shots for the rest of the day-- but water got inside the lens so I'm sending it to Canon to see if they can clean it out. Fingers crossed!

And I don't know who told you that California is sunny, Mick (unless it was the state board of tourism), but where I live in San Francisco there have been exactly 2 days with any sunshine in the past week and a half. It's been nothing but fog here. Oh, wait, were you being ironic? ;-)

Misinformed? Humph! I lived in California for 35 years, and I've lived in Oregon for quite a while now. I assure you, California gets a lot more sunshine than Oregon does. There's no contest at all.
If you don't believe me, then just try comparing the number of women wearing bikinis at the beach in both places. Here in Oregon, women wear warm jackets and long pants at the beach. Unfortunate, but true.
No, here in Oregon you have to learn to shoot between the raindrops. It takes great skill and lots of practice. :D
Philip is absolutely right about San Francisco though. I lived on Treasure Island for a while when I was in the Navy. I think that may be one of the coldest places on earth. Nice view though.
Yikes! The only difference between Treasure Island and Alcatraz is the bridge. When it's clear, though, that's the best place to take pictures of the city.
And you're right -- just drive 5 miles in any direction out of San Francisco and you're probably in the sunshine. Well, any direction but west.

It's been a long time and I'm sure things have changed considerably, but there used to be some awesome views of the city from road up to the bridge. Unfortunately, I never had the time or equipment to shoot the place the way I wanted to.

Yeah, driving west from San Francisco is hard vehicles. That pesky saltwater gets into everything. :D
