When I first started shooting stock, I used some cheap 500W work lamps that I bought at WalMart. They work great, but the downfall is that they get extremely hot and I can't put them too close to my light tent, cork board, etc...without melting or brown burn spots.

So, I'm looking to get some better lights. Do y'all have any suggestions? I've found these on the net and am thinking of getting them.

I have some similar (but home-made) fluorescents that I used to use and they're alright. My problem with them was that they're just not very bright, especially compared to 500W work lights. If your budget allows you would probably be better off with strobes, even if you have to just get 1 to start. An Alien Bee 400 or something similar would probably work...

I've had my eye on the Beginner Bee for a while now, but figured it would be better used for portrait photography rather than the small scale stuff I do in the light tent. Something to consider, tho.

I use my Alien Bee's for small scare light tent kind of shots all the time. In fact thats about all I use them for. I have 2 - 400's and they provide more light that I ever need.

Thanks guys. I'll look into the Alien Bees a little later. Right now I can't justify spending $225 per light for something that's only earning me about $20 a month.
