This photo was DQ'd from the Free Study challenge. For good reason. I broke the rules. In fact, I took the rules into an alley and opened a can of whoop-ass on 'em!

During the voting, prior to the DQ, commentors wondered how it was shot.
The aircraft is actually mounted on a pole in front of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, just outside Hamilton, Ontario.
I didn't "duct-tape myself to the elevators" or "hitch a ride with Tinkerbell".
The capture was simple, obviously. Once I freed the plane from its pole, it was a simple matter to re-install the engine, learn to fly...
Being a former member of the Air Force I figured this was a mounted airplane (every airbase I ever served on had them!). But I have to say you really captured the look and feel of an aircraft in actual flight! The vingetting and the slight fisheye effect makes the picture! Very well done.
Nevermind the DQ - It is a great picture and would look excellent as a print on a wall somewhere (Like maybe in the reception of the place you took the pic - LOL)!
Well, as you said, it deserved the DQ in the context of the challenge.
But in the context of "WOW," it's an amazing shot, and the processing really sells the illusion of a tail-mounted camera. So I just added it to my favorites. :)

It is a cool plane and, as you mention in the caption on your excellent photo, the museum is full of great photo opportunities.
I'll eventually get around to posting some of the shots I took the day I was there.
My grandfather was a Lancaster pilot, and there was a Lanc there undergoing some restoration/maintenance. I got several shots inside, and some of the bomb-bay doors open. Very impressive.

Thanks a lot for that. Since I stopped writing comedy for a living, DPC seems to be my only outlet. I'm glad someone's enjoying it.
I'm sorry but to enter a contest knowingly breaking the rules should be an automatic boot off of this site...why waste our time voting on your entry???

It was, to my understanding, not a deliberate case of breaking the rules. He did what he thought was legal, but when it came up before the SC, it didn't pass muster.
If we booted everyone who had broken a rule, knowingly or not, and ended up with a dq, we probably wouldn't be considered a very friendly site. Most people, after their initial transgression, rarely violate the same rule twice.

Yeah, what Karmat said. My read is that he thought what he did was legal, but when the SC talked him though the rules (both privately and in a public thread), he realized what had happened, and took his DQ in good humor, topping it off by posting an amusing thread like this!
I'm not terribly fond of the lens flare effect in that it doesn't completely convince me that it's natural lens flar. However, the photo is pretty damn cool.
