It would be nice to have all commented on pictures move to the bottom and non commented on pictures brought to the top so it would be easier to comment on a lot of pictures in a row.
I'm not currently a member so it's more difficult to make comments on membered challenges(Everybody together, "Join then"-Not feasible at the time, but that's another subject.) when the page reloads after each comment.
Since I hear about L&D recoding the site, don't know if they can work on this.
While we're on the subject (generally), it would be nice if, after you've voted on all the pictures, it would stop randomizing them. I often try to go back through and review my votes, seeing if I was unfairly critical of some shots, or maybe inconsistent in my standards (hey, over the course of 300 pictures, it can happen). But as I go through, say, 150 shots that I voted a 5, and I see one I want to change, it randomizes them again, and I can't pick up where I was. And also, once that was accomplished, it would be nice to retain the back/next ("<<" and ">>") links, instead of having to pop in and out of the thumbnail view, and also to have it go on to the next shot if you change your score, not back to the first thumbnail page.
So far, I always marked comments as useful.
But after experiencing that in more than one case I get mostly positive comments which does not go hand in hand with the average vote (sample1,sample2, sample3), I realized that they are, practically, not very useful and they represent quite a burden in website terms.
After all, there are the forums for commenting pictures and they are very much used for that purpose.

I'm not sure I understand you. Are you suggesting we do away with comments on the photos completely, or allow photographers to not ask for comments, or allow a person to delete particular comments that they don't like ?

So you want the roughly 3000 comments per challenge to be moved into the forums and disconnected from the original photographs ?
No. What it has been done.. it has been done.
Remove them from the process from now on.
There will still be pics with comments (those belonging from the old process) but the new process will be much faster, better organized and with less problems.
Technically should be pretty quick and neat:
[1] disable the feature of posting comments on a picture
[2] if comments cannot be posted on a picture, there will not be comments on a picture.
Then, with time, you can redesign the whole process on the basis of the current experience.

It is key maybe for photos which are a draft.
When the photographer has finished with it, comments should not be in a page which expose his/her work.
Can you imagine to go in a gallery of paintings and find under the work of an artist a page with written:
[1] wonderful, or
[2] awful (to be fair..)
It does not make any sense to publish comments underneath a work which is final and being exposed.. does it?
To properly deal the matter there should be a specific folder/gallery defined as "Drafts" and that only should allow comments attached to the photo.
And, unfortunately, not only is this an odd request, but totally unrelated to the original idea of improving the voting experience. :( Maybe better suited to a rant...

Bad analogy. This site is less a gallery, more of a classroom, where critiquing other students work is a huge part of the learning process, on both sides (critiquing and being critiqued). Even my daughter's 7th grade creative writing class is learning this process.

I noticed that everytime you make comments after you vote the thumbnails are reset to the begin. Granted thats fine is you select about 200 per page, but it takes awhile to load up even with dsl. I tried putting about 20 per page to have it load up faster and it does, but it constantly goes back to the beginning of your previously commented on thumbnails.
Anything to make commenting easier would be appreciated and I think more people would make comments more often.
